Relief

I should have built a pool years ago, but I am a line pilot for a major airline. Naturally, I am jumpy about spending money that I might need for a third (as in #3) career furlough. Even so, after finishing this major project, it is obvious that I have been wasting the intrinsic value of my beautiful Arizona home.

Arizona summers are brutal to the point of rendering outside living space unusable without a pool. You are forced to retreat deep inside the refrigerated air zones of your home until the sun sinks below the western horizon. I have used this pool for one month in the waning summer days. It has been total relief from the heat. Why did I wait so long? I guess I wanted to see how much more expensive they would become.

Now I get to practice taking care of it all winter...

At last, a look at your finished pool, Dave! Bee-u-tiful!! I'll bet you're even going to enjoy looking after it over the winter and it won't be long before you're swimming again!

Best wishes...

Hey SMART pool Dave.
We do not have too many over here in the UK as it would only be a few odd days even in the Summer when it would be considered s 'relief' to relax in a pool.

Glad you did it. Now you can venture outside for other things than going to the airport!

What's an Arizona winter like? Is it anything like an English winter?

I loved my pool and being able to go for a cool-off swim in the dark (no neighborws who could see). But--it was a victim of Katrina.

Enjoy yours--they are really great!

He he, how about the summer when its warm. I remember returning from a flight back to PSP and looking down at my pool and seeing it a nice pretty bright green...

It looks lovely. I hope you get lots of enjoyment out of the pool and spa. Did you go with salt water or chemical? A nice place to relax after being up front with Fifi for a few days, huh?

Maybe OT, but I'll ask anyway.

Is it usual in the US to put high walls around your property? Why?

bystander- Arizona winters are lovely. Perfect weather most every day.

almbunny- chlorine/ozone

stu savory- walls are common certain parts of the country, but not others. I am not sure why...

Dave,
Was just in Tempe on Friday for the first time, flew back to KBUF on Saturday (southwest 737-700) The friends we visited had a backyard like yours. pool, hot tub and surrounded by a nice wall. They like October weather best, summers are too blistering.

Hmm...In Oregon we dont really have walls, because there is so much vegetation that it is very easy to make a natural wall to provide privacy, made out of trimmed bushes or a tree line. I am assuming Arizona doesnt have the type of vegetation that would provide any privacy at all, so if you dont have a wall, then you would be in view of everyone...I love the dessert back yards. Here in oregon everything is so dang green...

Great excuse to pop the "wife of your youth" into a bikini!

Dave, a Gorgeous pool!! I can just imagine swimming in it all lights off, under the Arizona stars after it's baked all day in the summer. We do that here at my friend's pool. I won't say if we wear swimsuits or not. ;)

That's beautiful. It must be doubly refreshing because of all the sweat that went into making it.
